Does Moon have the same gravity as Earth?

I'm looking for topographical data of the pictured satellite.

To be specific I'm looking for data around the area where Apollo 11 landed.
00.67408° N latitude, 23.47297° E longitude

Most data I've found so far is fairly course, in return it does map the entire sphere. My area of interest is generally less than a pixel

The Moon. That's a dumb name. How about we come up with a better one? and no, not Luna either, that's just Latin for The Moon

Hey /sci/bros,

I am looking to buy a telescope. My price range is around $200 USD. The problem is that I have absolutely zero experience with telescopes. I want to be able to look at stars, planets, and the surface of the moon on my camping trips. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Also, night sky observing appreciation / anecdotes / tips are much welcome.

tldr; Am novice, want a telescope for around $200, general astronomy appreciation thread.

What wattage of laser would I need to be able to hit the moon, and see it with the naked eye?

I suspect my maximum <5mW green laser pointer won't do it.

I've been peeping the 1W Spyder Arctic laser. Is that too weak, too strong, or just about right?

Is there a reason for why it takes the moon the same amount of time to revolve around it's axis, as it takes it to revolve once around the earth? Or is it just a coincidence?

How expensive would it be to build and maintain a lunar base?

No really, if it was international and everyone shared the load. Finance-wise, how much of an expense would it be to the countries?

>inb4 but there's no motive
I know that. It wasn't my question.

Amazing developments in the field of habitation on the moon

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonization_of_the_Moon

Benefits of living on the moon:
- No need to withstand 9001 JiggaPascals of pressure
- Plenty of free land available. Literally tons of entire continent-sized areas that are largely uninhabited
- The moon can be terraformed for less effort than living at the bottom of the fucking sea
- No risk of drowning in your living room
-You'll be able to survive an extinction level event happening on Earth
-There are TERABUCKS of untapped moon resources on the moon.

I have never seen ONE convincing argument suggesting the moon landing was faked.

I want to know- what does /sci/ think and why?

Hey /sci/ if the big bang is real and not just a theory (a guess).

Then who put the moon up there?

/sci/, well you know the way the moon is essentially moving away from the Earth since it's angular momentum is increasing. Well under what circumstances will the moon's recession from Earth cease?

For instance, the Earth revolves around the Moon, or something.

The moon emits light like the sun, right? I mean you can see it clearly in the sky even when it's dark at night. So then why isn't the night sunny like it is in the day?

So... If we were to colonize the moon, hypothetically.

How the hell would we cool stuff down with a next to non-existent atmosphere? Imagine you had one computer in a room, that room would get hot, you would open the door and transfer the heat to the rest of the complex, but sooner or later you would have to get rid of some heat.

As far as i know, vaccuum is a brilliant insulator, so how the hell would we get rid of all the heat? Use it to heat shit up and then toss it out?

Dear Pluto,
Fuck you, at least youre still a dwarf planet. Im fucking bigger than you and Im just a fucking satellite. And you have natural stuff flying around you. I have fucking garbage from insects or some shit from Earth flying around me. Do you know what its like to have to follow a smug mother fucker like Earth? Bitch constantly goes on about how only "she has life" and that shes so pretty and blue and special because she has "weather" like shes the center of the universe. You are so lucky to be all the way in the back, no one fucks with you.
Sincerely Luna
