>Need to take the MCAT within a few months.
>Hasn't taken a science course in about 8 years.
>Looked at some MCAT supplementary materials and it looks like a different language.
>Feels unbelievably overwhelmed.

Anybody here know the best way to get started? Any advice or pointers? Any good resources besides the obvious guides?

From and evolutionary standpoint how why did we evolve to have programmed cell death and limited cell divisions? Or in other words, why did we evolve to die from old age? Wouldn't living the longest possible be the most beneficial and have spread the most gense?

Alright, so a friend of mine is taking Calculus for the third (yes, -third-) time and is pursuing an engineering degree. How do i tell him lightly that he can't possibly ever be an engineer, or really any kind of scientist if he can't understand literally the most basic concepts to the point where he's failed the course two times already?

Mechanicalengineeringfag here, i suspect that either the whole private space race or MEMS (self-repairing materials, nanomotors/generators, that whole shindig) will be the next big thing. But there's some really big holes in fluid dynamics theory, and that's where i'm hoping to do my research.

So I am attending my first semester of college this fall and I still don't know what I want to major in. I love to take apart random household things to gain an understanding how they function. I also enjoy chemistry however, specifically kinetic molecular theory (I guess you might call that chemical physics?)

What sort of major would best fit these interests?

Thanks, but this is exactly what i attempted.

Doing that yields 2*pi*x*(sin(x)/x), which is (2*pi*sin(x)). Now, that would mean that there is an infinite volume (since there are no limits at infinity for sin(x) ), which i guess would make sense, but i can't help thinking there being something wrong with that.

A doctor who used synthetic blood to save a Victorian woman's life says he is delighted the procedure was successful.

In an Australian first, 33-year-old Tamara Coakley was given a substance derived from cow's blood after she was seriously injured in a car accident.

>We already showed that far few people die from it than even renewable sources.

you didn't, in this thread there is not ONE valid source about anything like that.

>You are assuming that an absolute democracy is the best system

i don't, why would i? i never said anything like that. an absolute democracy CANNOT exist, in case you didn't know, and i don't even think that we should move more towards it or even as close as possible to it. what makes you think that this is my opinion?

>An informed democracy is [...] the best system. This is a system that only includes people who are well-read in the subject matter.

heh.. interesting opinion dude. in a state, a myriad of decisions on a myriad of subjects have to be made everyday. if something has to be decided, you would actually exclude anyone from the decision but the experts on the given subject? who decides who the experts on each subject are? other experts?

obviously you didn't think this through. what is your "informed democracy" and under what conditions can it exist? also, what is the best alternative we have at hand TODAY until that (theoretical?) system works (which is obviously not now, anywhere in the world)?

>Why should someone who knows nothing about something be considered equal to someone who's dedicated their life to it?

because human equals human, ever heard about that? frustration of professionals is a small price to pay.

so been learning about electricity and was wondering if you /sci/entists know of any good software that acts like a sandbox for electronics?

I'm talking about something where you can say put a bunch of capacitors/transformers/LEDs in a circuit and it would show you if it would work or not.

or better yet, anyone have any programs that would be good for learning more about electricity? In college so I'm very limited on budget so i cant go out and buy the real things...

Does anyone have some troll science pictures depicting troll-guy violating the laws of thermodynamics? Like perpetual motion, etc...

I'm taking a graduate level physical chemistry course and our assignment is "what would the world be like without the laws of thermodynamics?" I figure a fucking stupid question like that requires a fucking epic troll science picture.

tl;dr post troll science pics.
