PewDiePie isn't exactly the best person to reference when complaining about the authenticity of a given field of interest or it's fans.

Or are we going to forget he's the poster boy of e-cleb cancer and was once a corporate shill for Disney?

I'll take Tyson and his pop science fans over anything PewDiePie and his ilk bring. At least Tyson promotes worthwhile subjects.

It's a pretty good idea and you're probably a genius, except it wouldn't work because the earth is flat.

Here's the thing that /sci/ or /pol/ won't admit in mass, unless you're going into STEM or Economics. You really don't need higher level math courses just the higher level logic that's taught within those math courses.

But since everyone is so obsessed with numeracy and muh filters they readily ignore this fact.

Should we get rid of Algebra courses in Community College? No.

Should we provide alternative courses that strictly focus on the logic behind Algebra without subjecting non-STEM/ economics majors to numerical intensive work? Yes.

Maybe I'm being naive here but If you're going to community college to become some nurse or healthcare technician the only thing I care about is that you have good arithmetic skills and good logic.

No, he's fairly smart. It's hard to say he's a brainlet when he has a PhD and worth a couple million dollars.

He's basically what a majority of /sci/ browsers want to become (minus the memes). At this point it's mostly """purists""", undergrads and jealous wagecucks hating on him.

I've got no problem with him and would do the same thing he's doing (except with doing personal projects on the side) now.

>What is causing the steep rise in the lack of basic understanding of science by the general public?

Internet trolling gone bad is causing the steep rise, the problem is science illiterate people and young kids who don't know any better are accepting this information on face value.

Though currently it only seems to apply to astrophysics and climate science. There doesn't seem to be any real widespread uncertainty about the science behind topics such as computing and vehicle travel.

Maybe it has something to do with how many degrees of personal influence or abstraction a given field of science has on an individual's life.

Though this would not explain the general acceptance of math. Unless most people are to stupid to troll using math or don't want to look completely stupid for not knowing math and thus leave it alone like.
