>There's no reason to go there and no viable economic model to leave Earth orbit.
This words made me rage to the bone with the sheer stupidity and god I pray that this is just bait

Do you even have any idea of how much minerals there are in a single asteroid?
Shoveling for minerals is NOT cheaper at all as we spend tantamount amount of effort and budget just to find a mine with satisfying amount and even more efforts and money just to make it safe both for the workers and the environment
Huge price that would only increase further as resources run out and we get forced to dig deeper

Asteroids on the otherhand are definitely full of dense material like metals because the constant collisions weathered away the loose parts. You only need to move it in an orbit close enough for a team of space miners who would all return to crash the market for gold, titatium, and other precious rocks.
Not to mention the chance of finding uranium that can be used for nuclear reactors in lunar bases

And I have yet to mention the military application this would provide as all nations scramble for dominance of the orbit

The Earth has finite resource. We MUST leave

>There is literally no connection between the health of wild ecosystems and human welfare.
Oh fuck yes there is, you idiot
85% of oxygen comes from planktons
60% of global carbon emission are contained by tress unto their bark
Loss of polinators have decreased production of agricultural produce by 80%
The world rakes as much $100 Trillion per year from the benefits obtained from nature such as medicine, tourism, natural resources, and research
For comparision:
AAAAAAALLLLLL the companies in the world makes only $10 Trillion per year

And this is not including the drastic effects on societal and cultural aspect of every nation. No sane person wanted to live in an underground bunker forever
