I can't think about the James Webb space telescope for too long without getting really excited then very stressed out and needing to sit in a corner for a while.

Stumbled on this while researching the future prospects for a career in optical/photonics/laser engineering.

Will NASA just continue shelling out more and more advanced space telescopes or will this just get defunded after JWST's being delayed and massively overbudget?

Also, predictions on near-future advances in this technology general.

JWST is deployed. We see tiny/far away heavily blue shifted items.

What does this mean?

Can we Anons have a serious thread about mathematics education?

seriously

why do people teach this shit?

More generally, why do teachers always seem to think that wrong things are "simpler" and easier to understand than correct things? despite the fact that this approach has produced the level of mathematical knowledge we have to day: "I can't do fractions lol I HATE MATH!"

Y'know, when I was a kid I was really into all of this space shit, and was in full support of NASA.

But then after growing up and reading all these 'Earth-like planets found' and 'possible habitable planet found' and 'pictures neighbor solar system' and getting disappointed because all they've ever shown me was just some bright dots, I really don't give a shit anymore.

If we're going to spend 10 billion dollars and just end up looking at more dots in the sky, then no, I'm not in support. I should at least see something I can understand (ie, oh shit, that's actually a fucking planet) and not just dat dere bright spot in space.
