Why is destruction and bullying natural to humans?

Obviously the use of force is useful in coercion but even in situations where there is no material gain humans enjoy inflicting suffering on others and generally destroying things. I know there are a lot of hipsters who watched avatar and now like to say "HUMANS ARE SHIT, HUMANS ARE A DISEASE" to pose as being shocking and edgy, but this is a serious question. I need to understand the mechanism behind this behavior.

Lookin' for colleges that are full of engineering courses and are in urban areas.

Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks.
