>Perhaps it’s wise that we choose these companions to be so compatible: the average dog does, after all, outlive the average marriage.
Marriage has been in deep trouble for a long time now. But you can trust a dog.

Dogs with poor health are normally not allowed to breed. Yes, there are ugly examples (Alsatians etc.) but people know to be careful.

Belgian Blue shows we have a log way to go yet.

Hard to tell. Do we even know how well suited dogs were originally for use in hunting?

The strange thing is that dogs are very specialised - shepherds will, well, shepherd herds but are not suited for hunting birds and vice versa. And dogs cannot be taught to do things outside what they were bred for. I am not sure why since there is no doubt that dogs are intelligent and can learn. Some say dogs can learn to understand 40 words.

Dogs also know when they prefer not to understand...

>Tell us more. How did it happen? Were they bread for vigilance or something?
German Shepherds became very popular so the demand soared and standards were lowered to meet this supply.

Secondly the ruling bodies had a strange view on what this dog "should" look like, and felt that a specific profile was the bees knees. trouble is, this profile was associated with a weakness: hip dysplasia.

This is the fate of popular dogs.

My family instead brought a dog of a more uncommon type with a reputation of being somewhat demanding (an understatement). Pic. related.

That is when I would be walk backwards slowly.

I had a Tervuren. Awesome dogs. And it teaches you that dogs can be very complex, also mentally.

>Also because dogs are used to how humans behave
I thought it went a lot deeper than that, as the finger pointing demonstrates. Point at something and a dog will look at what you point at - a wolf would look at your finger. I have no idea what a hybrid would do. Perhaps look at your finger ... hungrily!

Go on, anon.

>Not only can dogs act as your best friend due to having co-evolved with us for 100s of years,
More like tens of thousands of years. Co-evolved is right though, it is well knwon that dogs are adapted to humans. Recently an article on BBC stated that humans have also adapted to understand dogs.

>they also act as guides for the blind, hunting assistance, and generally fun animals.
Certain anons may like to know that dogs are also trained for companionship with autistic children and are able to calm them.

>Dogs are servants.
You have never had a dog.

It is possible to have cats and dogs in the same household but there are problems, like severe halitosis for the dogs...
