The turn to the BBJ market was also a sign that investors have no idea what they're doing. With all the current pressure on the passenger airline industry and demand for huge Amazon freighters, Boeing isn't making fuckhuge cargo planes and electric-drive props that blue/urban states increasingly want for noise/emissions reduction. Instead the company is trying to be the Cadillac of airplanes, failing horribly because most of society is not rich billionaires who'd rather a European brand anyway.

You can see this in the military's longstanding demand for a "hybrid wing" transporter, which Boeing fails to participate in because the outsourcing prevented their new 787 knowledge from being applied to military contracts while internal talent itself is unable to build prototypes to work out the design. There's also Bell being slow on tiltrotor deployment; Boeing should have made the Cub or 172 of Tiltrotors by now but hasn't. Then there was the KC-767 scandal and now SLS. When Biden inevitably cancels SLS in three weeks (launchpad delays like this mirror Ares-I) Boeing will be up shit creek when NASA asks SpaceX to integrate Orion with their rockets.
