So a couple of the guys and got together and one of them asked, "What's the hardest thing you can't wrap your mind around?" One of them pipes up and says Quantum Gravity and I agree. Then another friend pipes up and says there are stranger things than that, though the dilweed doesn't give an example.

What say you /sci/?

Electrons don't run out because the energy is in the movement of the electrons, not made from the electrons themselves.

Like when you're at the beach and you keep getting hit by waves. The water doesn't run out but the waves diffuse into the environment. Electricity tends to diffuse as heat, from the resistance of the conductive materials.

This isn't really a well informed interpretation as I'm sure many scifags will follow up with complex equations but hopefully you get the idea.

Not everyone. Besides, as this thread demonstrates without any doubt, some go for the D.

Hey /sci/ I'm in grade 11 right now and I'm looking into future job options. I'm wondering if you guys can toss in some ideas. Math and sciences come easily to me and I'm very interested in them. I'm smart enough for pretty much any job. I have good people skills and I'm a good actor. I'm in good enough shape to be an astronaut but I'm over the height limit. I would like a job that would allow me to do something helpful in the world.

I can't be bothered looking for sources atm, but basically all the 'easy' chemical mechanisms to target in bacteria have been made as anitbiotics already.

Obviously they have to target something present only in prokaryotic cells but not eukaryotic.
As a result, drug development is getting more and more expensive and likelyhood of profit smaller.

As for alternatives, its always gonna be an arms race but it depends on weapon of choice:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phage_therapy
a mate of mine is doing research to bring this stuff back, its pretty cool.

I think you should do loads and loads of research on the internet about the different degrees before you choose

There's a coherant agnostic/athiest here who is either getting masterfully trolled by /sci/entists, or is genuinely trying to answer these retarded strawmen and posts littered with fallacies. It's best not to bother, after all theism correlates with a lower intelligenceand academic performance generally.

also one thing that annoyed me;
>science is just a tool

Yeah its a tool that gave you your way of life, your technology, the medicine that keeps you alive, the food that you buy, the clothes that you wear. Do i need to go on?

Is the secret to understanding/being good at math really all about doing your homework? Is it all about repeating and calculating?

Or does intelligence play a part?

I had this problem on a test that I just got back, and apparently only two people answered it correctly, me being one of them. So /sci/, let's see what you're made of, I really don't think it's that hard:

Prove that the power set of a set of cardinality n has a cardinality of 2n.

Hey /sci/, this was a problem I had on a test a few days ago in my computer science class. Apparently only two people got it right out of the class, and I was one of them, soooo...let's see what /sci/ is made of. I'm betting no one can solve this. If you do, then congratulations, you would survive a 400 lvl computer science abstract proof class.

Twenty five boys and twenty five girls sit around a table. Using the pigeonhole principle, prove that it is always possible to find a person both of whose neighbors are girls. Don’t forget to clearly specify the pigeons and pigeonholes.

The way a woman acts on a date or around people she doesn't know is very different from the things they are thinking.

While I'm sure some are just genuinely stupid, many just act like it.

Please Please help me with this problem below. My teacher made it so confusing. I need to construct a truth table, with 9 columns and 12 rows. The dimensions are throwing me off. THANKS

When Socrates was imprisoned for being a disturbing influence, he was held in high
esteem by his guards. All four of them hoped that something would occur that would facilitate
his escape. One evening, the guard who was on duty intentionally left the cell door open so
that Socrates could leave.

Socrates did not attempt to escape but the open door was considered by the authorities to be a
serious breach of security. It is unclear who was on duty that evening. In the testimony of the
investigation, each guard makes two statements:

A: 1. I did not leave the door open.
2. C was the one who did it.
B: 1. I was not the one on duty that evening.
2. A was on duty.
C: 1. B was the one who was on duty that evening.
2. I hoped Socrates would escape.
D: 1. I did not leave the door open.
2. I am not surprised that Socrates did not try to escape.

Assuming that exactly three statements are true and the other five false, deduce which guard left the
door open. Given the fact that the guards make a total of sixteen utterances, a truth-table analysis of
this problem is potentially very large. Fortunately, many of the distinct statements express the same
proposition, and only five distinct propositions are involved. Also, the assumption about the total
number of true and false statements further simplifies the problem.

A – A left the door open.
B – B left the door open.
C – C left the door open.
H – C hoped that Socrates would escape.
S – D was surprised that Socrates did not try to escap

Hey /sci/, I'm having trouble with what seems like a super basic proof. Here it is:

Prove that if x = 5m + 6 and y = 5n + 6 then xy = 5k + 6 for some integer k.

I really don't know where to go on this one.

Thanks in advanced!
