We spend five decades trying to communicate with dolphins before we were able to hold a coherent conversation with 'em. Don't write off enhanced sharks so soon, they've only existed for what, ten years?

People are gay for dolphins because they have better PR. And everyone loves a cute cuddly mammal. Sharks do the really useful shit in the aphotic zone. You get your rare earth shipments on time because some shark somewhere kept the ore extractors from getting jammed.

The benthics seem to get along with them fine. Treat them like pets. They do creep me out a little but the ocean's a big place, big enough for three sentient species and maybe four if the octopus project works out.
