The whole "year-round subsistence hunting in the jungle (and later savannah) vs. needing to farm and plan ahead for winter" thing is often given as a rationale for why Europeans developed a marked degree of intelligence. So not really.

Literacy in itself isn't intelligence. You must surely have heard of some trailblazing intellects in history who were nevertheless illiterate.
