I don't think I have what it takes to be a scientist. I was an undergraduate researcher (drug candidate research for cancer cells) working under a visiting PhD until they shut down my university last spring. The PhD I was working under finished his research and returned to his home country as well. It was a small lab, me being the only undergraduate, my PI used Covid as an excuse to let me go softly. (Maybe I'm just assuming). I didn't have anyone to work under and couldn't do math/programming. PI wanted computer science/engineering majors more than molecular biology/biochemistryfags even before Covid. Being naïve and arrogant, I thought I wanted to go to graduate school and become a scientist. Having witnessed what research is really like and reading so many papers on a certain topic I do not care about, I realized I don't want or have what it takes to be a scientist. I don't have the autism or intellectual capacity to do anything meaningful in science. Being around truly gifted people really puts you in your place. I've expressed my thoughts to one PhD student I know and he told me it's more about hard work than intellect.

I'm fine with just doing lab work or teaching...If I can even get a job when I graduate. Just posting a monologue to reflect on my own thoughts + shitposting.
