According to the Big 5 Personality Traits, girls are more agreeable and neurotic. They don't like being scolded by the teacher, and are happy to follow mindless rules. Thus they thrive in a classroom setting headed by some brain dead roastie. Men on the other hand are disagreeable. The problem of school is that the usefulness of the material you're learning is not immediately obvious

Which is why boys struggle in school, unless they have a strong male role model to emulate, or a specific goal to achieve.
Beyond school, in the workforce. Men tend to outperform women and earn more. Particularly if they're married, as that gives their works an immediate sense of purpose.

Due to their disagreeableness, men also thrive under competition. Perhaps we should segregate schooling by gender, as both have different environments in which they thrive under. We also need to do a better job of persuading students that what they're learning is useful
