Time for a thorium thread.

Is thorium the future? Is it as safe and efficient as they say it is? And if so why don't we have more thorium reactors? Also, is it a viable investment prospect?

Would thorium nuclear power really be more efficient and cleaner than uranium based power? I know its more abundant than uranium but would it also be more viable economically?

Any nuclearfags here? What would be the estimated capital costs for a thorium reactor?

Also, what is the main impediment to building them right now? Technology? Politics? Money?
