It's advancing in other ways that aren't immediately obvious. The leaps forward in Li-ion batteries over the last 20 years is incredible and has resulted in small lightweight reusable batteries that can hold a decent charge and have all sorts of useful applications.

I stand by my belief that the best invention of the 21st century is the cordless vacuum cleaner. I used to fucking hate vacuuming my house but now it's a piece of piss, I can be done in a minute or two.
