This what happens when you train people with general rules. They don't understand what they're for, or why they work in some cases, and start blanket applying them.

I've left some strawberries out on the counter for a few days and while they seem fine visually, and in a tactile sense, they've begun to smell and taste like yeast metabolic byproducts.

Should I still be eating them? For all I know they're generating methanol or something else none too grand. Know very little about bacterial metabolism and common food decay.
