Why do things exist as they do? Why do atoms compose everything? Why is there life on this planet? Why is there a planet to begin with? Why would it be surrounded by space? Why does anything exist as it does?

Why is the universe configured as it is, rather than something else? How does the Big Bang or any creationist theory explain this?

If i come up with an idea and build it, does that mean that nobody can patent it because what i've created is prior art?

Can i create something and not have to worry about IP law, and later on patent it for money if it turns out to be a good idea/successful?

So i've been wondering /sci/, what did people think before newton? Before they had the most basic shit like F=M*A. Before they knew why the moon orbited the earth.

was it seriously just "because God makes it that way"?

Is there any downside to science "worship"

so if earth has been around for like a couple extinction level impacts does that mean it's our job to find a solution for massive rocks hitting the planet?

If you had to pick an emering technology to go into that could/would net you a great deal of money, which would you pick?

Nanotech / Metamaterials?
Quantum computing?
Neuroscience/Neural engineering/BCI's?
Memristors?
Stem cell research?

Why don't the worlds billionaires invest a chunk of their money into researching life extension and things of that nature? Ignoring the old ones who will die before anything could manifest.
