The varible you are integrating over in a definite integral is called a "dummy varible". You can actually call it whatever letter you want, as long as you keep it consistant in that integral. It should not appear in the final answer.

If you have two different integrals, they have two different dummy varibles. You need to call then differnt things, in your case x and y.

It sounds like you need to study cal a little more. You are just going through the motions, yet actually have no idea what you are doing. You an engineer?
