...you are given One Billion US Dollars (an American billion, so a thousand million) to spend as you like on some kind of Scientific Research Programme.

How would you spend it?

Personally I'd split my investments: $500 million on research into improving LFTR technology, $250 million on research into research into terraforming Mars to a habitable environment, and another $250 million to research into deep sea investigation, just for the fun of it. I knew each sum of money on its own is not necessarily that much, but I'd rather spread my wealth, and it's not exactly nothing. Pic sort of related; terraforming of Mars.
