You are taking words out of context here. The video is implying the way we write down complex numbers can be better improved or made more elegant, equivalent to rewriting the plus/minus sign to some new convention. Did you even watch the video? This does not imply existing usage is wrong. If you think the latter, you are essentially disproving all of special relativity and the standard model for example. It technically isn't possible to formulate quantum theory without the complex numbers. Nature essentially implies <span class="math">\mathbb{C}[/spoiler] with stuff like the representation theory of angular momentum. Another example is that without complex-valued wave functions you couldn't couple fermions/bosons to electrodynamics.
