Do you think there is extra-terrestrial life on other planets?

What if there exists another species, somewhere else, that is so highly intelligent that our geniuses, who are showered with praise and have egos the size of jupiter, are like dribbling babies in comparison. How would that affect your self image, /sci/? Scientifically speaking, of course.

Does science recognize the existence of aliens? I know there is a good chance they exist just out of probability, but is there any concrete evidence? Personally I think astrobiology is just a branch of cryptozoology.

Why do all living things have the ability, and the will, to survive and reproduce? Because they have been selected for those qualities over hundreds of millions of years of evolution.
If you have a superintelligence, and let it 'evolve', by changing itself and modifying itself, it will likely develop the need to survive, simply because any state of its mind that wanted to continue its existence would be selected for and get carried over. This is all just theoretical but you can see why a projected superintelligence would have the will to survive, and therefore the will to expand.

Why is it so hard for people to accept that humans are most likely the only intelligent (as in capable of leaving our planet) species in the galaxy/galactic cluster?
Considering no one has really made a valid answer for the Fermi Paradox outside of the rare earth hypothesis why do people still demand that there just have to be aliens out there? Doesn't the idea of being the first not sit right with sci fi fans?
