Think of it this way: You throw a ball, it curves downward until it hits the ground. But what if you threw it fast enough that the rate it curves downward was outpaced the curvature of the Earth itself? Without the atmosphere slowing it down, that ball would just keep circling the world never getting closer to the ground. This is called an 'Orbit'.
Go buy/torrent a copy of Kerbal Space Program and start watching some tutorials, just a little while playing that and you'll never be confused about how orbits work again.

I see people (mostly teen-agers) every single day riding around in quads, dirt-bikes, sid-by-sides and in the winter snowmobiles. And not just a few but dozens every day. There must be a hundred or more owners of these things within a 1 mile radius of my home alone.
They aren't used for work (much) just riding around, I can only imagine how much fuel is wasted on them.

>Bla bla bla, I'm a fag.
>Plus, you have completely neglected to mention how fucked we may be if major oceanic currents shut down due to changes in marine salinity levels.

"We". No, not "we". "Some" isn't "we". If 95% of humans died directly due to climate change, there would still be around 500 million persons alive on Earth. Humans will be fine. I'm not worried about the integrity of the species.

>Mainstream consensus to my knowledge is that, if anything, human industry has caused the circumvention of an ice age.
A change in climate is not the same as the change in/exiting an ice age. There are many climates on a planet which is an ice age, and these climates may change.

Even if all the permanent Arctic sea ice melts, we're still going to be in an ice age as long as Greenland and Antarctica are as they are.

You're clearly uninformed as liberals today usually are, which hurts my balls because I'm more of a liberal than you. It always hurts more when "one of your own" is a fucking moron.

Books relevant to cosmology that aren't basic?

I've been educating myself over the common phenomena in the universe for a few years now and i've noticed most books are more for people who aren't as informed. Like a bunch of neil tyson lectures turned into a book.

Are there any more in depth but still entertaining books out there or is it time for text books and research articles?
