Orion is a good idea, but commercial crew kinda made it redundant. It was (supposed) to fly like 3 times a year, with 2 crew rotations to the ISS and a single lunar sortie annually. Now they want to just fly 1 per year. Looking back though commercial crew is a much better program because LEO Orion is just too oversized and expensive. But maybe if it flew more it would be cheaper.....

It’s sad that it fell from grace. But Orion actually can fly on a few vehicles nowadays. Reusable Falcon Heavy (3 Core landings) can put an Orion into LEO. Delta IV heavy can too, but it’s self immolation is dangerous to crew. ULA’s Vulcan can easily put Orion into LEO.

Yeah to be fair NASA is the king of wasting money. They don’t even have a plan for a mars Architecture, just some vague stuff about “oh yeah there’s a Gateway” and “yeah the uh Transport”. At the same time they’re not even willing to spend just a few million to bend some metal even. It’s so weird. Literally a wooden mockup of the Deep Space Transport or at least select a specific design of smarts Mars lander you fucking retards instead of changing it ever four months.
