Why are CS majors so bad at computer science?

And by "computer science" I mean things like algorithm design. Whenever I'm around them I get the feeling they try to put together algorithms without a deeper understanding of how they work. Like, I went to a CS competition some time ago. And I was teamed with one guy who was also a math major, and our team only had two people since the third guy didn't show up. But we still tied with first place. This is just one example.

So, really. Why are math majors better programmers than CS majors?

Pic related. I wanna learn some networking soon though since to me its basically "packets go in, packets go out, you can't explain that"

I'd also love to study math but while I am good at math, and can hold my own on a quiz or test, I don't think I'm smart enough that it should be something I do with my life outside of the algebra that compsci uses
