Who says they are overpaid? You. You don't get to decide what something is worth, the market decides. It so happens that there is great demand for economists relative to the supply of economics graduates, so that price of their labour is higher compared with other graduates. Economics graduates being in higher demand means that employers must compete to hire them to a greater degree, so wages are higher.

And the data backs up my claim that economists are paid well.
