hey /sci/

do you think a nuclear-pumped laser using a fission reaction could be made a viable power source for a theoretical space-based directed energy weapon?

i assume the weapon will be fired only at space-based targets, so throw out diffusion of the laser in the atmosphere.

how much reactor output would you need to fire the laser for the length of time it would take to do damage? and how much time would that be at say a decent distance (so way past like 1 KM) maybe thousands of kilometers+)

is there any way to determine what range this thing could operate at and for how long? i see that an aircraft-carrier grade nuclear reactor can generate about ~50 megawatts energy, is that enough to power this theoretical laser? too much? too little?

has anyone worked any of this shit out?
