Tokamaks today are a catastrophic waste of money and attention. You basically just explode H-bombs in an underground vat of molten salt and use the heat to run a turbine. There you go, fusion power production beyond all your wildest dreams. The nice thing about the molten salt business too is that you can put it deep in a mountain, or deep underground, and when you stop blowing up the bombs, it solidifies into a solid block trapping the radioactivity in a safe place where it will decontaminate itself over geological time scales. This shit actually fucking works, we could build it today, but sadly h-bombs are politically fucked.
