Think about the kind of person who would come to 4chan and want to “hang out” on the slug slow /sci board. Other boards get anons of all iq’s and all backgrounds, but /sci is attractive to a caustic, toxic kind of a hole who NEEDS to prove he is smarter than everyone else because he has a preexisting NEED to feel superior to everyone else and has no other more concrete and less abstract options for doing that.
