Yes. There is too much politics and retardation going on in general across all sciences, but especially in biology. Expensive sciences like biology and chemistry are heavily dependent on funding, which means they can't do anything but follow the gravy train. Right now it's cancer and single cell, yesterday it was personalized medicine and immunotherapy. No clue what's next but it will be equally pointless and the publications will be just as non-reproducible.

I am literally stuck designing an atomic force microscope because it's literally impossible to find a serious lab in bio-anytihng but I don't want to give up my dream of general regenerative therapy. ps. I don't know shit about electronics, I'm learning as I go. I based myself on designs like Dan Berard's.
