For one thing, Ducatis are made far more finely. Less tolerances for issues, and they're generally higher-strung, which requires more intensive and attentive maintenance.
If you mistreat it, a Honda won't flinch due to being made to deal with that. Ducatis? Nope, they'll fucking die.
It's less of a "bad engineering" perspective and more that Honda's stuff is engineered for a different purpose than Ducati's. The former is built for "very good, for a long time". The latter is "fucking outstanding, for a short time if you don't maintain it."

Find an internship or two. Do side-projects that are relevant to your interest, or join projects in a local college.
There are engineers with 3.9 GPAs who couldn't design their way out of a wet paper bag if they had a knife, and engineers with a 2.4 who work on rockets because they can actually apply what they learned in school.
