I went into science because I wanted to be a wizard (before that I was into religion but after actually reading them I lost faith that any of the current writings are correct).
To at least some degree I think a lot of other scientists are the same way (maybe it's especially true for my fellow chemists).
I've explored the occult and magics and failed to find anything tangible.
If anyone could find proof of any aspect of the occult they would be a shoe-in for a nobel prize.

Hell, I even spent some time doing research with complementary medicine (my uni had a TCM school and hosted the national institute of complementary medicine) to see how much of that is real and how much is bogus (most bogus some real but nothing metaphysical).
