Are current scientists worse than those from beginning of XX century? And why they look like crap nowadays?
Does anyone know if universities were harder before II world war?

how does the daniell cell works? The Zn have a higher electronegativity than the Cu, so why the electrons pass from one to the other? even if the Cu is immerse in Cu+2, the Zn is also in Zn+2, so the ionization strength of both of them would cancel one another. so, why?

Hi, /lit/ here.

Can science explain the essence of reality?

P Dirac is dating Jane Russell. She trips, and he falls on top of her. Someone says, "Hey, look at Dirac on Jane Russell..."

or

A cop pulls over Werner Heisenberg and says, "Do you know how fast you were going?"
"No, but I know exactly where I am."

ok, can you do better?

Dear /sci/ I want to study math. phys. or applied math. I currently reside in the UK but i'd rather not stay here for my math studies, however I don't speak any other languages so that pretty much limits my options to english speaking countries. Suggestions for universities that have good departments in the aforementioned disciplines?

I gotta run so this'll be my last post and you can grab the last word.

>>4527634
>You are posting claims without evidence and I refuse to believe you.

Well I gave you a book citation in my first post. Check out anything by V.S. Ramachandran. That or most neuroscience texts for pretty nice collections of material.

Almost every single one of my emergent properties (perception, emotion, etc) has been studied and given at least some plausible, falsifiable explanation from neuroscience.

If you don't *want* to investigate the science that's fine... but that's a purely emotional, childish argument.

>How should subjective experience be measured?

The same way any other experience that our brain has is measured. How do we know where our brain processes what we see? How do we know where our brain processes emotions like fear and anger?

Surely these are "subjective" experiences... after all, we aren't capable of seeing or feeling EXACTLY what the other person is seeing or feeling. But that doesn't mean we can't learn about where these perceptions exist in the subject's brain.

Do congenitally blind people dream in color?
They would say no. Their dreams are a matter of sound, touch, and the other 20 something senses that they retain.

What do we see when we look at the brain of a dreaming blind man?

His visual cortex is silent.

This should tell you something.

what is /sci's opinion on new research coming out in the field of acupuncture? buddy of mine is an acupuncturist and has sent me some really interesting articles lately regarding a system of communication in the body that basically amounts to a body-wide fiber optic network. He says the peer reviewed article is due out beginning of next year in the journal of theoretical biology and draws on research over the past 30 or 40 years into how the body is able to conduct light through these "bonghan" ducts the line up perfectly with classically described acupuncture points and "meridians"

This isn't supposed to be scientific in any way though, just asking for opinions.. Kinda ruins the irony.

This is a great pic. Getting a poster of it doesn't sound too shabby.

Smaller percentage of young scientists when related to their whole, contribute lesser jumps in science... compared to the percentage of older scientists (sample would have to be those who are still as immersed as their younger counterparts).

Support or Reject.

I want to write a Chemistry essay, but I don't know how to 'draw' Molecular Structures in MS Word. There must be someone here who's familiar with the trick, right?
