Hey /sci/ I haven't done much formal research on this and was hoping you could enlighten me.

In the future information on harddrives will be stored as atoms. I don't know much but from what I can gather it will be like a DVD. The laser burns a little 1 or 0 which denotes and action on the disk. With the atoms if the atom is in a certain area on the hard drive or something like that it will denote a 1 or a 0, i'm not 100% sure but you get the idea.

I have seen pictures of this technology already (I think silicon atoms where used). Which begs me to ask the question whats next? There isn't anything smaller than an atom unless you take into account subatomic particles such as protons, electrons etc. So is the next stage of harddrives after atoms subatomic particles? Would protons be arranged in such a fashion to denote 0 or 1 and maybe electrons after that?
