As has been said there is plenty of stuff in space. Especially close to the sun since it is constantly ejecting material, some of it as photons allowing us light to see, but it ejects other particles too. Look up information in the intersteller medium and intergalactic medium to learn about everything in between stars and galaxies.

Creating and controlling stable mini black holes. No more concerns about waste management, just toss your garbage into your own personal black hole! This may not actually be feasible but it sure would be cool.
