Not sure if this is the right board, but whatever.

Anyone here lucid dream/ have the ability to control their dreams? I'd like to, and I've looked stuff up and I've reached the point where I'm able to recall a pretty lengthy dream most nights. Obviously it will take time until to actually reach the stage of lucid dreaming, but I reckon I'm on my way. I do reality checks and whatnot throughout the day as well.

>Any tips from lucid dreamers
>Any experiences - how much have you managed with lucid dreaming?

What's the best way to achieve lucid dreaming?
Is it just a fun trick or are there any benefits for a human being to be able to do that?

There have been a few times, usually before waking up but sometimes before falling completely asleep, when I become somewhat lucid and try to observe my thinking in this state. On these occasions, I get a disturbing feeling that something is very wrong with my mind, something which I can never quite pinpoint and which I'm totally oblivious to while awake. It's terrifying when it happens. It feels almost as if my mind is split and that the conscious wakeful part is totally cut off from another part which only expresses itself during sleep.

For example, one time it happened, I felt a profound sense of guilt and fear over not realizing how bad my porn addiction had gotten. When I'm awake, I acknowledge I have such an addiction on an intellectual level but I rarely feel emotional about it beyond some mild frustration. I think about it pretty casually in fact, sometimes making a shaky promise to myself to quit but not usually taking it seriously. The "addiction" itself is not disabling, it's more like a persistent nuisance. During this dream though, it almost felt like I was so corrupted and brain damaged that I had lost all ability to even recognize the severity of my problem much less begin to quit. I felt absolutely sick in the medical sense of the word.

Other times have involved me panicking about the integrity of my cognition, panicking about whether the associations in my dreams are too loose, panicking about whether or not I have the ability to love people, etc. The single common theme is that these worries strike me when I'm asleep but lucid, and that they always involve me questioning my mental health in some very profound ways.

Can anyone relate? Might there actually be something wrong with me or does this all boil down to reading too many psychology articles before bedtime?

A lucid dream is any dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming.
Now being aware of your sleeping condition, you are still able to utilize your accelerated thoughts.
Many artistic and scientific breakthroughs are said to have come up this way.

Thoughts?

Have you ever put this state of mind to good use?
Is it in any way possible to speed up your thoughts while remaining conscious and awake?

Hey /sci/
What is the best way to learn lucid dreaming?
Also, what is it like? Is it really possible to do anything you want? Is it possible to feel pain or something?

Hey /sci/,

would be nice if we had a thread on lucid dreaming/body expiriences, or rather a rational discussion about the subject.

A few years ago I was able to do it once or twice, but after some frightening expierences I wasn't able to it ever since. Now, I'd like to get back in the swing of things, but I've got the feeling I need to work on my mindset and elimate that remaining sentiment of superstition.

Having said that, I would really appreciate book suggestions, opinions and personal expierences. Well, it would be great if you're willing to at least.

Every since I was introduced to Lucid Dreaming through a forum I regularly visit, I have been very eager to try it, only to be disappointed due to it either not working or due to me not being able to recall the dreams. I am also somewhat scared of trying to induce it and having it turn into a nightmare. Can you guys help me by giving me tips on inducing lucid dreams? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, I have just started getting into the art of lucid dreaming, and I would like to know if anyone here has either tried it or have intentionally induced it. Also I would like to know what technique you used, because the only technique I have tried so far is sleep paralysis, and the only think I achieved from that are terrifying nightmares. Thank you in advance.

I've noticed alot of anons on /sci/ condemn religion yet consider themselves enlightened.

But can we just get this straight.
1.) The scientific method was more or less made up by a human's imagination.
2.) We still do not know one thousandth of one percent of what nature has revealed to us.
3.) Science doesn't say how nature is - only what a man has said about nature.
4.) Peer review is just a fancy phrase for mob rule.
5.) Anything that can happen, will happen.
6.) All theories are approximate.
7.) The whole truth is nothing but the truth.

any objections?

/sci/ First off may I say that I don't actually consider psychology to be a legitimate science, but I do have a question concerning bipolar "disorder".

What I don't understand, is why people who show more brain/emotional response than others are considered to have a disorder. How is being less responsive better.

In an example. One minute X remembers something saddening and starts crying. The next minute someone says something that triggers an aggressive response and X begins to yell at them. The last minute someone makes a joke and X begins to laugh.

Why is this considered unstable? What's considered stable would seem like the equivalent of an under-clocked CPU, stable but with lower performance. Being responsive doesn't seem like a disorder to me at all.

So, I think I just had a lucid dream. But I'm not sure if it was a lucid dream or if I was dreaming that I was having a lucid dream.
I pretty much dreamed that my parents brought back my dead dog, and after a while, I realized it was a bit strange, so I did a reality check. I covered my nose and I could still breath, and I thought "HOLY SHIT I'M DREAMING!" and then I woke up.

I'm not sure if it was a lucid dream cause I wasn't even trying. I did a few reality checks yesterday, and I don't keep a dream journal, but I can remember my dreams, usually the last ones I have. And this one was around 9:00 after waking up.
What does /sci/ think?

soup /sci/

I've been reading up a bit the last few days about astral projection, lucid dreaming, OBEs, etc. To be completely honest, the guy I've been watching on Youtube sounds a bit crazy but I should probably reserve any more judgments until I actually experience it.

Anyways, in regards to intentionally entering these states while sleeping, it seems that both astral projection and lucid dreaming are nearly identical in their induction methods. Does anyone with some actual experience in this subject have any tips on how to enter one state and not the other? I intend to try it out tonight, so it would be much appreciated.
