The allure of Mars is that it's so unstudied. Who knows what kind of substances we might find there? Hell the deepest we've ever dug is only equivalent to what something the size of a car could manage, which probably isn't very far. I'm still of average intelligence, but I definitely feel smarter than I did in high school.

I've been reading about Particle Physics, and I'm wondering if /sci/ can explain to me spin and its relation to mass in a little more detail. I'm still trying to decipher what mass "is" exactly. Is it basically an inert state of energy formed by particles with a spin of 1/2, 3/2, 5/2, etc...? From what I can gather, mass is said to exist because of the nature of the quantum wave function in fermions, versus bosons, whose wave function is different in some way and that allows two bosons to occupy the same quantum state and all that jazz. How does spin, mass, and the wave function all tie together? That's basically what I'd like to know.
