In the early 1900's, kids used to memorize the names of 17 planets in school, because we didn't realize that a bunch of them were part of the asteroid belt.

Pluto is part of an asteroid belt, and it ain't even the biggest thing in it.

Not that Ceres doesn't deserve some respect, but if we treated every object discovered in an asteroid belt as a planet, we'd be talking tens of thousands of planets, with new ones discovered every year. Gotta draw a line somewhere.
