So I was talking to a creationist who said that if we evolved from an animal or the thing that looked like an ape, there would be fossil, and there isn't. So is it true that there is a missing link?

Hello, I have some questions about evolution that I have been wondering about and I want them to be answered. Here they are:

How did life originate?

How did the DNA code originate?

How could mutations—accidental copying mistakes (DNA ‘letters’ exchanged, deleted or added, genes duplicated, chromosome inversions, etc.)—create the huge volumes of information in the DNA of living things? How could such errors create 3 billion letters of DNA information to change a microbe into a microbiologist? There is information for how to make proteins but also for controlling their use—much like a cookbook contains the ingredients as well as the instructions for how and when to use them. One without the other is useless. Mutations are known for their destructive effects, including over 1,000 human diseases such as hemophilia. Rarely are they even helpful. But how can scrambling existing DNA information create a new biochemical pathway or nano-machines with many components, to make ‘goo-to-you’ evolution possible? E.g., How did a 32-component rotary motor like ATP synthase (which produces the energy currency, ATP, for all life), or robots like kinesin (a ‘postman’ delivering parcels inside cells) originate?

Why is natural selection, taught as ‘evolution’, as if it explains the origin of the diversity of life? By definition it is a selective process (selecting from already existing information), so is not a creative process. It might explain the survival of the fittest (why certain genes benefit creatures more in certain environments), but not the arrival of the fittest (where the genes and creatures came from in the first place). The death of individuals not adapted to an environment and the survival of those that are suited does not explain the origin of the traits that make an organism adapted to an environment. E.g., how do minor back-and-forth variations in finch beaks explain the origin of beaks or finches?

I know there are many theories on the subject but I'd like to share my own in hopes for it to either be torn apart so i know its impossible or put together in a way I couldn't making more sense as it could be possible.

What if instead of evolution or creationism, there was a "substance" that was exposed to a group of "pregnant chimps" in a set "location" causing a large enough genetic mutation in the fetus thus creating "erect humans" since they couldnt mate with their "original species" and have offspring they were to mate with other genetically mutated "chimps"

Or, if they were rejected by their "mothers/species" had went their own "way" in which they mated passing on their genes creating and populating what is now "human"

What's the importance of teaching evolution in high school, or earlier?

How is knowing evolution a necessary skill for a high school graduate? Can't they just teach it in college?

Sounds more like just a dick-measuring contest between scientists and creationists than anything else, really.

Ok /sci/ I come to you with a question regarding evolution.

Is it possible that over the next few hundreds pf thousands of years that apes will evolve to be as intelligent as the current human? If the conditions are right could any other animals take the same course we took years ago? If this were the case would we evolve to give us competitive advantage over them? Or would we remain relatively the same if our species weren't threatened?

tl;dr could any species eventually reach human level functionality/intelligence

I understand natural selection and mostly how genes work etc. I'd generally say i understand evolution.

I don't exactly understand how new species arrive though.

If all the black people in the world were separated from all the white people in the world for 1-2 million years, would they eventually diverge into two different species and be unable to mate with each other?

As a child I never believed in Santa, the Tooth Fairy or God. I just had no reason too. My mother was religious and my school would go on about Jesus every Christmas but it made little sense to me.
I remember one day at primary school where I had a argument with a girl about humans evolving form chips, but being young it was more like 'came form monkeys'. She started telling me how god made us, i told her she was wrong and tried my best to explain evolution.
A teacher over heard use rowing and I was the only one punished for this. I was given a break time detention in the library, where i discovered a illustrated picture of human evoultion (like the one posted). I showed it to the teacher and asked why i was in here when i was right, she said i was in here for arguing. I thought that was odd as the girl was arguing as well.
From that day I had little contempt for religion, as I felt I was punished because of my opinion.
And that girl grow up to be a obese creationist, who volunteers to brainwash kids in the summer holidays.
I guess that argument could of been the turning point in both of are lives.

Greetings, /sci/ ;3.My name is Epifania
Greco, (I'm Italian) and I've been contemplating Darwin's theory of evolution for quite some time now. And, I've been wondering, what if we were to send a large quantity of Humans into the vacuum of space, in the hopes that they'd adjust, and modify fittingly to their new "hazardous" environment? Reproduce, and create a new species in the Homo genus, capable of surviving, and even thriving in the "inhospitable" vacuum of space. I know, I know, many of you will oppose this theory without lapse of time, and deem it impossible. But think about it before you make uninformed and irrational assumptions. (Image related, I suppose)

Why are there white colored people, and black (or brown) colored people? How and why did we get separated by color?

OP, it all comes down to evolution

>Man marries
>man has sex with wife
>woman is impregnated
>husband's genes live on

now in cuckoldry-
>man marries
>other man fucks wife
>wife's genes live on
>husband has no obligation to support children
>man freerides in gene pool

Why does evolution meet such harsh public opposition?

The myth that theories must become laws before they are accepted by the scientific community, creating a false sense of dispute; the common ancestry of humans and primates being perceived as tenuous at best and the belief that "macro-evolution" and "micro-evolution" are completely distinct and one just is wild speculation.

I used to think that the deniers were entitled to their opinion, it's a pretty difficult thing to accept based on previous human assumptions; but, the more I've thought about it the more unreasonable denying evolution seems be; to the point where now any time I hear it mentioned I assume said person has undergone some massive logical failure.

Science obviously should not be taken as mantra, but evolution should receive no more scepticism than the notion that the Earth is spherical or the solar system is heliocentric.

So what is it that causes this massive backlash? Anthropocentricity? The cornered actions of religion? Or simply how difficult evolution can be to comprehend without significant thought and a level of education?

Hey /sci/

I would like to hear some theories proving and/or disproving evolution. I don't want ANY sort of thing regarding RELIGION.

What are some theories, and also, what do is your take on it?

I do not want to start a religion vs. science argument so please no religious reasons

Hey, /sci/.
I come to you from another board to ask you something:
Yesterday, I was the witness of a discussion between an evolutionist and an anti-evolutionist on the subject.
However, the latter asked him: "If evolution is true, then how came the human cease to evolve? How come the animals haven't evolved to a more advanced state? Evolution should be equal to all species not selective".
The other dude couldn't respond and tried to avoid him by making another argument.

Since I'm not well versed on the subject, I thought I'd ask you guys if there are answers to questions like that, because I would really like to know them
Thanks anyway.

So, /sci/, I've got a question for you: how come girls are so turned on by assholes? Every girl I've been nice to has seen me as "only a friend," but every girl I've basically walked all over emotionally has clambered for my cock. What gives? Is there some evolutionary advantage to this kind of attraction?
