Thats not how it works. The definition of investment does not imply growth. And we shouldnt act like a investment is inherently good. On average the whole economy grows like 2% a year or something. That doesnt mean if I invested $100,000 into anything, even a hot dog stand, it will likely become $102,000

Dont say investments imply growth. They dont. Good investments imply growth, and investments arent always good. It depends entirely on what you invested in, and no one can ever know if what they invested in was a good investment.

Everything Ive ever learned about finance, has been pretty grounded in reason. Yes, there is risk, and unknown, but finance people are smart, and do their best to accurately account for these things. Gambling has a connotation of recklessness, and that is exactly what finance people arent.

Well, if they have any regard for the well being of society then they should worry about it. In reality, some companies are ethical and some arent, and the government should step in when they arent.

I never said they "need" to worry about it though. but it is a cost. I originally said it was an unaccounted cost they dont need to worry about.

When we are talking about scientists and political policy, I would hope the well being of society would be in their interest.
