I can't believe that /sci/ has reached a state where an xkcd drawing is an appropriate answer to a thread.

Well, all bodies emit their own infrared light. That's called heat. In fact, all bodies emit light in every wavelength with varying intensity.
That's what you are seeing with heat vision; the infrared part of that body's emission spectrum.

So here's the challenge; Find a way to melt glass in preparation for a mold, using nothing but what can be found in a normal house. I do have ceramics I can use as well tho.

tl;dr help me successfully melt glass using household items and ceramics.

/sci/, I have a question. I am thinking of creating a science news site that explains science concepts and news with simple language and detailed explanations. I'm also looking into making infographics and stuff like that. Think this would be a worthwhile task? I know there are plenty of "popular science" sites out there, but I want to make one where I can actually explain the concept thoroughly (for an average person, not a scientist). Need halp

I'm a huge physics geek/physics major. Having derived this equation and seeing the comparison to CMB, and being knowledgeable about Hubble's constant, redshift, everything is moving away from everything, etc., this hits much closer to home. Now I know how Dawkins feels.

I feel like an idiot but I just can't seem to get this. I'm doing a math/physics problem where I have to integrate over all phase space of some function. Essentially I want to turn the integral over momentum (d^3p) into an integral over energy by use of the relation E = p^2 / 2m thus getting an integral over d^3E.

Now my first approach was to find that dp/dE = m/p. From this then d^3p / dE^3 = 3m^3/p^5. But is this truely a relation between d^3p and d^3E?

Sorry for the lack of latex.

Hey guys so I have been working on my own website for a few months and I am devoting it to college level science and math topics, in the hopes that I can help students that are struggling or who would just like more exposure to these subjects. I am also going to be posting my own youtube videos to go along with it. My question is, is this something that people would actually take advantage of or am I just wasting my time. Any feed back would be appreciated.

Question: if it were up to /sci/, what would be the plan to legally defeat these kinds of rising problems?

/sci/ I recon you guys should be more welcoming to h/w threads and people posting mathematical and science problems.

Because let's face it, the only other threads are second rate psudoscience or third rate philosophy threads where everyone bitches and trys to look smarter than each other

tl;dr There should be more threads where people try to solve problems or prove theorems etc.
