Sure, but the reasons seem to remain largely cultural and social, topics that /sci/ hate, so probably you won't get a good answer here.

I find funny that it seems that it is not entirely income related, as poor countries like Brazil, México or Romania have more female researchers than Germany, South Korea or Japan. Then again, I think women have more presence in biological and medical fields, while it is lower in physics, chemistry or maths.
