Opposition and support for NASA crosses whatever imaginary political lines have been drawn. Regardless of whatever stupid fucking reasons people rationalize their opposition to NASA, it won't be their fault if it gets shut down, it will be our fault for not making any effort to stop it from happening.

If supporters of NASA don't start making an effort to stop it from being constantly fucked over, human space exploration probably won't survive another generation.

I already wrote my rep and have already convinced some of my classmates write theirs. We're even planning to flier our physics building to see if we can't get more people involved.

The juicy stuff is in the Appropriations, Human Spaceflight, and Commercial spaceflight sections. The other parts like science funding aren't really that different in either bill.

I don't think I kept a copy but I'll check. The gist of it was outlining the situation and the two versions of the bill, and then arguing a simple case for the senate version of the bill. It was only a page long, but I kept it very respectful and to-the-point.

It worked, so I obviously did something right.

Getting back to the OPs point - while it doesn't seem like one call or one letter or one short meeting with a representative will impact their decision, never forget that you're a part of their constituency. Politicians know that every constituent they piss off is one less potential vote in their favor, one less potential donator, one less potential volunteer. Losing one vote can cost a candidate dozens, even hundreds more, and in races as close as those going on in these midterm elections, every vote counts.

Most people don't care about the space program either way, so a politician who thinks he's going to lose votes by voting for this bill will take the safe route and oppose it.
