How come nobody has brought up mathematical notation? Z and Q for example, let alone all the bullshit like pic related. It should just be called Autism notation. It has nothing to do with math, and everything to do with Autism.

The misuse of e.g. mibi vs mega for computer systems is frustrating. At tibibytes, 1 terabyte is only .93 tibibytes.

The million different syntaxes for programming are beyond the scope of this post.

Mol and Meter are SI units, there's no distinguishing even with caps.

And electrical movement was defined before electrons were. Electrons are negative by being opposed to positive (default) fields. The reasoning is backwards.

We should be more frustrated with anode and cathode.

This was actually a question on the British TV Series QI ["Quite Interesting"] a few years ago.
It was "proven" symbolically.

Reading math theory is the worst thing you could ever do for your brain

I don't have my image of the properties/proof things of a vector field from a linear algebra book, such as a v1 + 0 = v, or that 1 * v1 = v1.

Instead, have math.

Someone needs to brush up on their Principia Mathematica.

Can /sci/ recommend me any good introductory logic books for my brother? He's been looking to learn logic, but he doesn't study math and he never took anything past single variable calculus. The book he has now has started to become too hard to follow, and the other book he has just doesn't cover as much material. Any suggestions would be great.

I am starting to get highly interested in very fundamental mathematics.

Is there any value to reading the Principia Mathematica these days? Or should I start some place else?

I want to learn about the most foundational areas of mathematics you can think of. I guess that means set theory.

Help out a math nub, who only knows what he has learned in school (up to cal3, linear algebra, and applied analysis)

here is a model theoretic proof for 1+1=2.
2+2 can be found and justified similarly.

Don't start to nitpick. The example was a pretty clear one. It should be allowed to say 1+1=2 and have it accepted without typing out the lengthy proof (picture related).

Proof.

And I, being a highschool student, understand <10% of it!

Nope, 1+1=2 is a true statement
