What I like in a book is a good motivation why the book was written on the first pages before the content.
The problem I see with your project is that the target audience, and more specifically their background, is not very specific. If they don't know the stuff from the start of your book, then I don't see in what time their supposed to understand the latter topics. You must have super-ingenious style if you want to provide a book which will be used over such a broad time of learning different topics of different difficulty.
Then I like a clear visual between definitions, theorems, proofs, informal talk, maybe using colors.
I personally also like a history page at the end of sections, but whateva.
