Hey /sci, I'm working on a lab report and I need to use the density of ice to solve for convection heat transfer. All I need to know is if it can be assumed that the density of ice is constant (i.e. = 916.7 kg/m^3)

I understand it must vary in every situation, but can I just assume for simplicity it is const.

Friendly fire! Friendly fire! I'm on your side! Pay attention!

If you apply for a programming job with a CS degree, they view that as = to a CP degree.

What's a profitable 2 year AA degree to obtain that will land you a quick, decent paying job?

I've read that Computer Science/Comp. Network Specialist or anything involved w/ computers is good.

Does anyone know if is this is still case? Do colleges even still offer this?

The thing is that pure Darwinian theory does not hold water, when it comes to something like the irreducible complexity. Though I do not believe in the intelligent design, but the statement: "Every function can be explained through gradual change of previous states." While in the case of flagella this definition falls short. So we should modify Darwins theory that sporadic massive complex gains do happen and everything is not gradual.

This series of videos is quite explanatory:

Sup /sci/. Article on the motivation behind the evolution of sexual reproduction:

Now, someone with expertise explain to me why both mechanisms couldn't be at work. It seems to me that this guy's head is so far up his ass that he would cite tapeworms as the primary impetus for the evolution of fat deposits.

Einstein's theory of relativity inherently wrong?

So, /sci/. I'll begin my post by saying that I woke up just under ten minutes prior to me writing this post. While I'm still wiping the makeup sleepily from my eyes -- I did just read something that was interesting enough to detract from my schedule to inform you of.

"Important -- if true." so goes the old adage. And that's precisely what I felt inclined to say.

Scientists (well, physicists) in Europe (at CERN as well as the European Center for Particle Physics) have observed neutrinos traveling at just over the speed of light. Attributable to human error, maybe?

For those of you who know anything, you'll know that this has enormous implications for Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity.

His theory purports that light travels at roughly =/ 186,000 miles per second. I mean, what implications would his assertion that nothing travels faster being disproved have on our concept of time?

You're undoubtedly asking yourself what evidence there is to substantiate this claim. Apparently, neutrinos were capable of making a journey of 724 kilometers (450 miles) at really what is only the fraction of a second -- 0.0025% of one.

Obviously, I am not yet making the assertion Einstein was wrong. The results should be subject to scrutiny and we're in the process of further recreating them to again clock the results.

As I close, I ask myself and you to keep in mind that Fermilab in 2007 also managed to have observed neutrinos at a similar speed. Though, upon exploring it they were not able to substantiate the evidence. Is there anything that we can manage to allude to this happening seemingly by chance?

*in the event I stop replying to this post for some reason, the topic is interesting enough for me to ask that you add me to facebook if you're interested in discourse on the topic as it develops:

Afternoon /sci/. I'm currently tooling my ass of over a project about the potential risks of nanotechnology, but many of the scientific journals I'd like to access articles from require a subscription fee which I'm not gonna be paying.

How can I access online journal papers for free? Are there any password lists or anything like that available?

Pic related, me for the past few weeks.

Hello /sci/entists, i have two unrelated questions.

1. What are your thoughts on the validity of M theory? Is there a difference between M theory and String theory?

2. What kind of women do /sci/entists date?
