Evaporating slowly will give you very big crystals.
If you evaporate in open air, there is a chance that the DMT could become oxidized to dmt-oxide, which is a yellow goo.

Some do a rewash with bicarbonate and recrystallization for whiter and cleaner crystals, but I think it's unnecessary.

There's not much danger if you use relatively clean solvent.
I don't like it in the freebase form though, too unstable for long-term storage.
