Math is a bag of semantic tricks we use to solve problems too hard for dum dum monkey brain inbuilt features. Virgin mathematicians exist to make the lives of chad engineers and scientists easier.

Because I can conduct any number of experiments, from shining a laser at you to taking a ruler.

But that simply isn't true, my little estronaut. For a second forget your preconceptions and consider this simple thought experiment:
I can make an experiment to determine whether something is at least 1 plancks length away from me or at least 2 plancks lengths from me. But I cannot make an experiment to determine whether something is between 1.5 and 1.6 pl from me. What physical significance does infinitesimal distance have, then? What physical significance do distances that are not an integer multiple of pl have if they have the exact same properties as the nearest discrete distance?

You are thinking terms of preconceived axioms and not in terms of the actual model we are looking at here. Instead of the usual properties that apply to the "distance" object, but clearly do not apply in this situation, we need to tweak the way this object is defined mathematically for it to reflect physical reality. Not the other way around.
