debunked

"The study was carried out by a Keralite (George Gheverghese Joseph), and no serious academic agrees with the conclusion that the Kerala School had created calculus.

Identifying an infinite series is not same as creating calculus, and even if it was, Archimedes did it over a thousand years earlier. And Antiphon and Eudoxus developed the method of exhaustion much earlier. Some of the series developed by the Kerala school were already known to earlier mathematicians like Alhazen.

The unique achievement of the Kerala school was the series expansion for trigonometric functions, a very small component of calculus (just like the series identified by Archimedes and Alhazen). It was a great achievement, but in no way it can be called close to what Newton and Leibniz did

This 2007 article is basically a PR piece for the book that Joseph was working on at the time."
