Oh, I apologize, the article I linked to was about Australia, not Europe. I meant to find an article about crop-burning in Switzerland.

And I realize some people may get upset, but that's not a reason to outright ban testing for Alzheimer's just because they can't do anything yet. Plus, gene testing has positives, in that many people upon finding out they are at risk are more likely to buy health insurance and plan for the future responsibly. If I'm probably going to get Alzheimer's I don't want to wait until the last minute and wind up on the street because I didn't prepare.

bump, I'm really curious. How come we own our bodies but don't own our organs apparently?

Raymond Kurzweil predicts that the year 2045 is the year that a technological event called "The Singularity", which is defined as "the moment when technological change becomse so rapid and profound, it represents a rapture in the fabric of human history"

Basically its the year humans create hyper-intelligent AI, and technology advances at such a rate that humans themselves become obselete. Death can be avoided by downloading the conciousness into a computer and live in a virtual world, or live in a cyborg like state, with superpowered computers acting as prosthetics.

This rapid boom in technology will also lead to profitable space exploration and its theoretically possible that we will be colonizing the galaxy by the end of the century.
What are your thoughts on this? Would you replace your aging fleshy body with one of silicone and steel? Would you save a backup of your mind to a server bank? I know this is all theoretical but its really interesting stuff.

I think it's great that information is much more free then before, because of things like Pirate Bay. Honestly, if I invented a cure for cancer and I was afraid of assassination like the conspiracy theorist up earlier in the thread, you could just upload everything and it would get mirrored like crazy, same as Wikileaks did. If enough people in the initial stages know about something, it's impossible to censor something now.

This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about.

All I want is the ability to hold and interpret all of our acquired knowledge. I want to see the world like Dr. Manhattan. A robot body wouldn't be bad either; I disdain this meat puppet body of mine.
