because they fail calc I and don't want to re-learn algebra, thereafter majoring in something without an actual math requirement. it's the same reason people don't go in to STEM in general; women just tend to be more anxious and self-critical in the face of failure on average.

i've met plenty of smart women who are in STEM at my uni and over time i think it will all even out. there are lots of initiatives to get women in to science, which, will eventually not be needed. in any case, i think the people who screech autistically about "needing more womyn in STEM" are a little ridiculous. anyone who is a legitimate "sexist" will never be swayed by that kind of reasoning or approach.
